Heroine: Gemma Westmoreland

Mr. September: Callum Austell, sexy Australian ranch owner

His Deepest Desire: The elusive Gemma Westmoreland

The Seduction Plan: Get her on his turf–ASAP!

He’d been biding his time, and now the perfect opportunity had arrived to pursue the ultimate object of his affections. Offering Gemma a job to decorate his new home meant she had to come to him. And on his territory, the Aussie knew he could easily woo her into his bed. But this Westmoreland woman was no pushover. If Callum was going to get what he wanted–as always–the millionaire just might have to utter three little words first.

The book blurb makes Callum out to be selfish and pretentious, interested in Gemma only for the sex, but that wasn’t the case here.  Of course Callum desires Gemma but there were more – way more – feelings behind his actions at the start of the story.

Callum came over to the States to help work his best friend’s sheep farm temporarily.  But one look at Gemma, Callum fell hard and he stayed indefinitely.  Though I’m not a big believer in love at first sight, ironically, I love reading stories about love at first sight…but only when it involves the man falling hard for the woman.   There’s just something about a tough guy knowing what he wants, who he wants, that I find very sexy.

Callum came from a well loved family with parents and siblings who each found love with their spouses.  In fact, Callum’s father had met his mother and fallen for her at first sight.  So the thought of love doesn’t scare Callum.  He didn’t think finding “the one” woman for him would happen to him so soon but when he saw his best friend’s younger sister he knew without a doubt that she is it for him.  Unfortunately for Callum, Gemma was just fresh out of college then so he waited and watched over her from afar.  For three years, Callum patiently watched over the woman who unknowingly staked a claim on his heart.   Though even more unfortunate for him, Gemma is determined not to be serious with any man having grown up around brothers and male cousins who are notorious for loving and leaving women.

Knowing Gemma’s independence and her personality, Callum hires her services as interior designer to decorate his home…in Sydney, Australia which is a world away from her home in Denver, Colorado.  On his own turf Callum figure he would have Gemma to himself, to court her properly, and to convince her of his feelings for her.

What a Westmoreland Wants is a fairytale read but nonetheless a very romantic and sexy read.  Callum is so patient, loving, and protective of Gemma.  His feelings for her are intense and so endearing I couldn’t help but cheer for him to get the woman of his dreams.

“I hope you know what you’re doing,” Ramsey said.  “Gemma will give you hell when she finds out the truth.”

“I’ll tell her before then, but not before she falls in love with me,” Callum replied.

Ramsey lifted a brow.  “And if she doesn’t?”

To any other woman Callum’s intense pursuit might seem like a romantic move, but Ramsey was convinced his sister, who didn’t have a romantic bone in her body, wouldn’t see things that way.

Callum’s expression was determined.  “She will fall in love with me.”  And then the look in his eyes almost became one of desperation.  “Damn, Ram, she has to.  I knew the first moment I saw her that she was the one and only woman for me.”

How can you resist a hero like that?

Gemma is smart, witty, assertive, and fiercely independent.  She is determined not to let her brothers run her life.  Against their objections she hires a woman without doing a background check on her and the woman later steals from her.  While waiting for her funds to be recovered she takes on the job that Callum proposes to her and gets more than a new client.  Though Gemma was initially resistant to falling for any man she didn’t play hard to get or downplay her growing feelings for Callum.  Neither did she drag Callum’s feelings through the hanger once he admitted his feelings to her.

When Gemma and Callum takes their relationship to the next level it was hot. Scorching, actually.  But also tender loving.  Jackson writes really sensual love scenes.  Another point in Jackson’s favor is the family dynamics that exist within the Westmoreland siblings.   There are a lot of love and camaraderie between the siblings.

This is a short book but I finished it with no complaints.  The characters and the HEA were flushed out enough that I didn’t even realize the length of the book until I checked the page count and read that there were barely 200 pages.

Brenda Jackson is a new-to-me author.  I find her writing fluid and very easy to read.  Since reading What a Westmoreland Wants I have read three more books by her.  Her stories are consistently hot yet also sweet, the characters strong, and the loving steamy.  I will be checking out even more of this author’s backlist, no hesitation.

For the Kindle readers, the e-book copy of this book is price very sweetly — only $0.81, a really good deal to entice a reader who isn’t familiar with the author’s works as was the case for me!
