I am in sort of a reading slump. Okay, truth. I am in a reading slump. I haven’t been able to finish a book from start to finish. The last book I finished in its entirety was Kindred in Death and that was last Monday…a week ago! I picked up an erotic romance novel and I was only able to skim it. The same goes for chick lit and neither did historical romance work. I’m really frustrated. I think what I need is a good romantic suspense to sink my teeth in to. Short of re-reading Karen Rose’s backlist – who is one of my favorite romantic suspense authors and whose backlist I’ve re-read numerous times – I’m not sure who else to try. I really hate to waste time when I can spend it reading!
Help, I can’t read!

Ugh, reading slump sucks.
Did you try Leslie Parrish. I thought her books were okay, but a lot more people enjoyed it and she does have a similar style to Karen Rose.

Thanks. I’ve read the first two books of Ms. Parrish’s A Black CATs series. I have the 3rd one but I’m leaving that for a better mood because Lily annoyed me in the previous book, ha.

Oh, I hate those! Ugh! Sorry you’re going through one, Tabz. But, re-reading is not a waste of time… it might energize you and clear the cobwebs.

I’m re-reading one of my favorite Karen Rose’s book — Count to Ten. Mia and Reed always cheer me up! lol

Oh I so feel your pain! I’m in the same kind of reading slump and I’m mad about it because I have so many books that I need/want to read and yet nothing is holding my attention.

[sigh] Isn’t that the way it always goes? When you have too many books to read, nothing seems to hold your attention. I’m so disgusted at my TBR! lol!

Hi there!
For Romantic Suspense, you might enjoy Anna Louise Lucia (Run Among Thorns and Dangerous Lies) and Christy Reece (Rescue Me, Run to Me, Return to Me). These are both new authors. You can advance-preview their books on Amazon to get an idea of their writing style. New authors need all the support they can get!
I hope you find a book you really enjoy very soon!

Hi Lisa! Thanks, I’ll check out Anna Louise Lucia. I’ve already read Christy Reece books!

Ugh, I hate reading slumps! One thing you might try, which works for me, is to read books outside of your usual genre/subgenre. Try picking up something that’s really far outside of your usual selections, but that you’ve heard good things about.
Good luck!

Hey Katie — I’ve tried reading a book outside of my genre and it didn’t work. In fact, it made me more glum. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Aww, yeah, reading slumps are the worst!
Maybe taking a little break from reading will help? Vegging out by watching some of my favorite romantic movies helps me sometimes get back into the mood of reading again. Or at least the eyecandy will help lift your spirits!
Hope you get out of it soon by discovering a great new read!

Haha. Great idea. I saw The Proposal recently and it really cheered me up. Another chick lit movie is always good.

Hi Tabitha
I can relate & it’s frustrating when you have a huge TBR. Here’s the tricks that work for me.
I might read lighter stuff like a romantic-comedy.
I will read books that grab you from page 1.
I will read what I’m in the mood for & not feel guilty if I read a new one over ones I’ve had a long time. Some recs: The Christy Reece ones as mentioned above (pure genius), Elizabeth Naughton (Stolen series – 3rd one due end of December , literally take you for a ride from page one). Robin Kaye (so funny & sexy- 3rd one due Dec 1) Marie Force (both books – sweet ,funny , sexy). I know you guys are not Susan Elizabeth Phillips fans but I just finished the 7th of the Chicago Stars Football series & I did not want them to end. sweet, laugh out loud funny, sexy.
Julie James (both books – laugh out loud & very smart writing.) Hope that helps.

I’ve read Robin Kaye, Christy Reece and Julie James so I’ll check out the other authors you mentioned.
I do like SEP although not a big fan. I have Dream A Little Dream in my TBR and I heard that one is a tearjerker. Have you read that one?
I’ve only read one book by Marie Force and I enjoyed it, not sure about her newest release though because the love triangle is not my cup of tea.
I’ve not heard of Elizabeth Naughton. I’ll look her up, thanks!

Hi Tabitha
Dream a Little Dream is the first SEP book I read. It was the Canadian Thanksgiving Monday. I went on her site & you can browse the books. I read the first 6 chapters with an ache in my chest & tears in my eyes. Luckily, there was a used book store open that day & I went & bought it & read it that day. It’s the 4th one but it did not ruin it reading them out of order. Everyone’s fave seems to be Kiss An Angel which is not a Stars book. With the Marie Force book, it’s not really a triangle as they both have significant others but are rethinking their relationships while getting to know each other. It was actually a stronger book than her first although I loved them both. Elisabeth Naughton is just super. Wish we were neighbors, I’d lend them to you LOL.

Mary, thanks for letting me know about DALD. I’ll check out the book during my lunch, yay. haha.
Re: Love at First Flight — I’m almost afraid to ask this because I don’t like cheating h/h but…did Juliana sleep with Michael while she was still with her significant other?

I feel your pain. I spent most of the first part of the month in a nasty slump, but I finally seem to have moved out of it. Thank goodness.
Sometimes when I’m in a slump just powering through does the trick – meaning I just keep reading even though I don’t want to. Course sometimes nothing at all will help and it just annoys me.
Have you tried Linda Winfree yet? She’s a wonderful RS author and her books are quick to read.

Hi Holly! Guess what I got in the mail last night? Two Linda Winfree books! Lol. I ordered it based on yours and Casee’s reviews of her books. Her covers are really dark, a kind of reddish orange. Did you read her books in print or e-copy? If print, are the covers dark like my copies?

Hi Tabitha
I can’t find my copy of Love At First Flight so I can’t remember if they cheat on their SO’s. I know they realize how much they like each other after being reunited with their SO’s. Most authors though have a built in safety net when it comes to this premise. The SO’s are not usually sympathetic characters. Her guy had cheated on her or was thinking of it, I think, & was trying to get back in her good graces. He was engaged to an ice princess. Not saying it’s okay but whatever happened did not detract from the story so you’re safe. If you want you can wait till I find mine. You’ve got lots to read anyway LOL.
